On the job in Otago region

A case study in adding value to your home

Posted November 25, 2021

We ripped up the pavers and the railway sleepers, and pegged out the new design. We had room to extend the main deck area to easily accommodate an outdoor table and chairs.  For the stairs, we widened the stair treads so they could double as extra seats for guests.

The owners wanted the stairs to be a point of interest and to flow naturally down from the main deck and around the established garden. We chose Vitex hardwood for the deck and stairs. The aim was to create a decking area which didn’t look at odds with the sub-tropical garden which bordered a protected mangrove inlet.  So we created stairs which fitted seamlessly around the feature rocks and planting.  The owners love the new look, and it’s now “the place to go for sunset watching”.
